I received some advice earlier this year that changed my perspective on how I have been perceiving my life. Said advice was that I needed to stop taking myself so seriously because, in the end, we need to make sure to enjoy the lives we live. Above all, I needed to learn how to surrender my expectations and learn how to have fun with the process. At this point, you may be wondering what relevance this personal anecdote has to do with a restaurant review. Well, restaurants tend to take things very seriously, and remaining playful while running a kitchen is easier said than done. Luckily for us, New Fuji figured out how to do just that - emulating the importance of playfulness from the moment you walk through their doors.
🦢 Food: For this restaurant review I had the pleasure of being with my university friends. We have always been a group of foodies and New Fuji showed up for us with this meal. To start, we got a round of drinks. New Fuji makes their craft cola and the group decided to each get some variation of a drink that incorporated the house cola. I got the Ginger Mojito. For food, I ordered the Flambée Truffle Edamame, Truffle Corn Karaage, and the Chili Rosé Carbonara Udon. I did however also try (from my beautiful friends) the Ebi Mayo as well as the Wagyu Long Yukhoe Sushi. All of our orders had some type of fun twist to a classic drink and or dish and every single bite was beyond delicious. I can confidently say that each menu item at New Fuji was curated to remind us that we can remain unserious and still execute professionally. I would also like to give a HUGE shout-out to the Truffle Corn Karaage - order it, I mean it.
🦢 Mood: When you arrive in New Fuji you are greeted by a tasteful glass display case filled with retro figurines of food. This alone tells you that New Fuji prioritizes fun. Inside the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the continued display case at the bar-side as well as the 70s-inspired decor. Colours, textures, and patterns are abundant but play together beautifully. Staff shout out to welcome guests in traditional Japanese style and seem to be enjoying themselves just as much as the guests. Everything about this space was lively and entertaining to take in.
Feeling playful is a treat of an emotion to experience and having a place to go to experience this feeling is an even bigger reward. New Fuji is youthful, and refreshing and lessens the intense weight of living and playing adult. I guarantee it to be always playful, and always delicious.
