There's a difference between trendy and stylish. Trendy chases the moment. Stylish is timeless without trying too hard. Is That French? gets this. It's sharp but not stiff. It's cool, but not cold. It's the kind of place that speaks in earthy neutrals, intentional textures, and good lighting. It doesn't need to convince you of its style—you feel it when you walk in.
Food 🫒:
Their menu is compact and constantly rotating with goodness. As a wine bar, my friends and I, of course, opted for a couple glasses of wine to start our evening. Their wine list is one of my favourites in Vancouver. It is always thoughtful and approachable, with many delicious and local bottles to choose from. For dinner, we shared several plates, starting with their oysters, oeuf mayonnaise, and Gordal olives stuffed with Boursin. We then followed by ordering the wagyu toast, Belgian endive salad & confit rabbit gnocchi. Every plate was rich in a way that felt indulgent but not overdone or heavy in flavour. All of their consumables feel intentional—simple concepts but stylishly executed once you dig in.
Mood 🫒:
Is That French? is sleek but warm and glows with candlelight. From the plateware to the layout of the space, every choice was made with meticulous attention to detail and an impeccable sense of style. The ambiance in this establishment allows you to show up dressed up or simply casual, and either way, you'll feel like you're the coolest person in the room. To top it all off, the staff are knowledgeable and take pride in working at Is That French?.
Is That French? is what happens when taste doesn't feel the need to prove itself. It's for the ones who notice the details—the weight of the glass, the crispness of the pour, the way good lighting hits your friend's face. If you're feeling stylish, go here. And even if you're not, you might leave feeling like you are—effortlessly so.
